I was so attracted and excited by the school's mission statement. I believe that is what education should be about. As a humanities teacher, I wanted to expand my understanding of local and global perspectives. Working in an international schools allows you to broaden your horizons as you have to adapt to life in a different community and culture.

As I complete my first year at our incredible school, I have never felt more invigorated and inspired in my career, despite having been teaching for many years. I feel like my practice has developed considerably in the 10 months I have worked here, in part due to my engagement with the IB Curriculum and English National Curriculum outcomes, in hand with working with many talented and dedicated practitioners. The calibre of the staff is hugely impressive here, with a wide variety of skill sets, adding to the rich learning experiences of our pupils, every single day.

Opportunities for development have been very good at BISNY. I've learnt a lot from formal training but also from the support of my colleagues. The staff at BISNY are very open to trying new things and using resources in an innovative way. The access to technology has made a positive impact on my teaching.

The opportunities for shared growth are evident at BIS-NY, whether through high quality staff training, Personal Learning Communities, collaborative planning and learning & teaching, or simply, daily professional dialogue. Equally, opportunities to lead, develop and grow as an individual are embraced and supported, making this a highly desirable environment in which to develop your profession. I am excited to be embarking upon an IB Training Course this Summer, fully funded by the school, which I hope will bring about openings to further embed the IB in my practice, while also leading staff training around Inquiry-based Instruction, at the start of the new academic session.
 

 
Collaboration is key to working at BIS-NY. I've learnt a great deal from being able to share ideas with so many other educators.

I love that at BISNY we are a nurturing community in a big city. When I come to the waterside plaza, I feel that I am entering the safe and loving environment where everyone from student and teacher to staff is free and supportive of one another.

The HR team were incredibly helpful with my relocation and all the logistics, paperwork and financial implications of moving to a new country.

Moving to any big city is a bold and sometimes daunting experience, but I can truly say it is the best thing I have ever done. The supportive nature of our staff aided the transition and already I feel I have friends and relationships here which will last a lifetime. New York has so much to offer in so many different ways - it really does have something for everyone!
