It must not be forgotten that the basic law of children’s creativity is that its value lies not in its results, not in the product of creation, but in the process itself. It is not important what children create, but that they do create, that they exercise and implement their creative imagination

Drama at The British International School of New York in incorporated both through the curriculum for all students, and as an extra curricular endeavor through School Play, an annual musical production open to students in Years 4 through 9.

Rehearsals take place after school, where actors and actresses learn lines, music, choreography, blocking, and develop characters. With this comes learning about responsibility, making new friends, and celebrating each other's talents.

Let's not forget the students who participate off the stage, with the set design club, backstage crew, and the young musicians whose dedication behind the scenes has allowed magic to happen on stage. Students are transformed into makers and builders!

Teamwork, risk taking, commitment, and laughter by all contribute to make each show a success. Past productions have included Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Bye Bye Birdie.

In addition, students in Years 1 through 3 have the opportunity to participate in creative dramatic and music activities in their own Performance Club. Each year, we culminate in a final production which we develop and create together, owning all facets of creating a show from its very inception through to opening night!
